Aside from the irrepressible tendency of people to gather and purchase more things than they need, another reason that the self-storage industry is a booming business all over the world is that human beings keep forming relationships.
If a person has accumulated things over the years, he or she would surely attach sentimental value on these items. Moreover, familiar household items can give each individual a sense of security and/or a sense of belonging.
The memories and symbolism people associate with the things they own make it very difficult for them to simply sell or give away these items even if they no longer have enough space where they could keep these sentimental items.
